Everywhere I go, everywhere I look—there’s God, showing off again. I am thankful for the opportunity that He’s given me to capture His creation through the lens; I don’t take it lightly. Without God, I am lifeless (Job 33:4). I find it absolutely impossible to look through the lens of a camera and think to myself, “Wow… that happened by chance!” Instead, I am in left in awe of the people He’s created, the skies He formed, the grass He grows, the planets He’s molded, and the earth He moves.
Romans 1:20 (ESV) says, “For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” King David resolved that, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). I believe both of these statements to be true: God is who He says He is. And since we can see His workmanship and glory all around us, we are without excuse.
In John 3:30 when John is talking about Jesus, he says, “He (Jesus) must become greater; I must become less.” Personally speaking, it’s my desire to live this verse out on a daily basis. Sometimes I do okay, sometimes I fail horribly. Thankfully, He provides immeasurable grace. How can I give God the glory for all things without getting in the way of myself? That is the ongoing question. To me, photography is one tool that God has given us to showcase His work; and we don’t deserve any of the credit for it. More of Him. Less of me.
So here goes nothing. Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me breath. May it be used for Your purposes and for Your glory.
In Christ,
